Has anyone else notice a much lower volume when using the speakerphone even when you have the volume turned all the way up compared to the 13PM?

To me it sounds the same as the previous iPhone 13 Pro Max I had before. Make sure your “late night” eq settings are turned on in the music app.

Actually i just did a comparison and my new iPhone 14 Pro Max is much louder in every aspect whet it be audio quality and volume for music and calls. While doing a side by side volume test I found that iPhone 14 Pro Max is much louder than my iPhone 12 Pro Max and the grill on the 12 Pro max are clean and new since I just got a brand new replacement a last month. When using the speaker to listen to voicemails I found that 14 pro Max was louder and had more clarity than my 12 Pro Max. Even during call its louder and has more clarity overall.

Also testing both my iPhone 12 Pro Max and my new iPhone 14 Pro Max and the audio quality is better on the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the volume is just the same as the iPhone 12 Pro Max through the headphones but through the speakers the iPhone 14 Pro Max is considerably louder and I mean very loud even with eq set to Hip Hop it sounds like as it’s very loud where the iPhone 12 Pro Max with the same eq settings the volume is very low from the speakers. But from the headphones I feel the iPhone 14 Pro Max has much better stereo sound and it might just a tad bit louder due to the clarity of the sounds output. Also I used the Apple lightning headphones for this test and my Bose Car Audio system.

I feel the iPhone 14 pro is much quieter than the 13 pro when it comes to FaceTime. But I don’t notice it with music.

Do you have it inside a case? Some cases may block off some sound compared to other cases

The 14 Pro Max is much louder than my 12 Pro Max. Tying on the keyboard is louder, the speakerphone during a phone call is louder. All in all, this was a great upgrade.

My 14 PM is louder than my 12 PM. Don’t have a 13 to compare to.

iPhone 14 Pro. Speakerphone volume @ max is about 1/2 to 1/3 of the output I get from playing music or listening to videos on youtube.

Yes I noticed that immediately. My speaker phone 14 Pro is way lower than the 13 Pro. Everything else is louder like music, non speaker etc but actual speaker phone is lower. Mind boggling

I am confused? We have conflicting reports of some saying it's too low - and some saying it's louder. So which is it? Too low - or louder

Alarms, ringtones, etc are all louder on the 14 than the 13. But speakerphone volume specifically is WAY lower than my 13. Just noticed it last night.

Testing my 13PM beside my 14PM, volume on 14PM is definitely lower than 13PM, but the 14PM is a little more detailed.

Sound quality from my new 14 pro via Bluetooth or out via cable to car is really lousy compared to my 13 pro.

The top end is harsh and brittle and distorted, same via my Sennheiser momentum 3’s

So poor I’m actually contemplating returning it as I can spend 2-6 hours a day in my car and sound quality is a critical element to my device usage.

It's interesting.

I just tried to record some video (for whatever sound level diff. it might capture) of a speaker phone call vs. music audio on my 14Pro and didn't seem to encounter the issue. In testing, I called the Apple inc. automated number from my contacts using speaker phone and was surprised at the volume being about normal/loud as expected. When I did experience the lower than expected speaker phone volume, it was when I was on the phone with my wife who also has an 14Pro.

Unable to test further at this time due to lack of wife calling availability, but I wonder if its either intermittently occurring for me OR it's possibly related to iPhone>iPhone calls or iPhone14Pro>iPhone14Pro calls. 🤷‍♂️

Whoa. Great observation. My Gf has a 14 Pro and shes the only person I talk too on the phone lol and thats where I noticed low volume. I just called my sister who has a 12 pro and it was normal sound.

I've noticed the issue when I'm talking to other iPhone users, or when I'm connected to my car via carplay and talking on the phone.

The top end can be very distorted if you have your Audio Quality setting set to High Res Lossless which will disable all EQ functions and will amplify the sound therefore causing distortion.

Same as the 13PM top speaker is lower than bottom
what updates is your iPhone 14 pro max running on? For example I am on the very first iteration of iOS 16 which is 16.0 (20A357). I wonder if the problem with low volume started after this update?

16.0.2 , I’ve also got a screen protector that has a “mesh” that covers the earpiece which probably doesn’t help much. It’s very minimal difference. But I remember it was similar on the 13PM also.

The problem is not the volume of the device. The problem is that since iOS 16 was released, there are problems with the way in which volume is controlled. If you have the switch turned on to “change with buttons “then everything should work as it did on previous models however, in iOS 16, there is a volume control issue where even though you are changing the volume on the ringer or in specific applications, it’s not registering within the operating system so for example, if you’re at half ringer volume and you’re on the home screen, normally you would be able to press the volume up button to change the ringtone volume but even though you push it to 100% it still stays at 50% as an example. I don’t think Apple knows about this issue yet because I called them and I opened a ticket and they didn’t know how to fix it. With iOS 15 it was fine as soon as I installed 16 the problem started.
