Looking for opinions. I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro with less than 80% battery health, which I'm not thrilled with. I'm trying to decide if I hold out for the iPhone 17 and upgrade, or just replace the battery on the 14 Pro now. I probably would not go with the Pro again just due to anticipated cost. I would consider the Air, depending on how the chips fall with that. Right now the biggest upgrade for me that I see would be the USB-C port - I'm really trying to get Lightning out of my life, but the 14 Pro already charges wirelessly and frankly that is how I charge it most of the time. I still have a number of other Lightning devices too — AirPods Max, AirPods Pro 2, and Apple Touch ID keyboard. It'll be a while before I can replace everything. On top of USB-C, I am also concerned about keeping up with the latest version of iOS. I suspect the 14 Pro will be safe for a little while, but I never want to get into a situation where I can't run the latest OS on such an important device.

I don't usually go 3+ years between upgrades, but upgrades are getting less compelling and so to be honest I'm kind of leaning toward just replacing the battery this time and seeing what the iPhone 18 brings. 🤷 Is there anything super interesting that has been released in the last few years I may've overlooked that would make an upgrade more enticing, beyond the USB-C port?

I would wait until the iPhone Air is officially announced. That way, you can make an informed decision on price versus useful day to day features. If the new features aren't really needed, upgrade the battery.

I think that makes sense; thanks. Just trying to exercise patience with the current battery situation until then. 😆

Just got rid of my 13 pro due to what I thought was related to battery issues. But realised (after I had updated to 18.4.1) that it prob was related to 18.3.1 or 18.4 that was consuming a bit more battery. With 18.4.1 the phone went back to its original state delivering great battery time.

Now it wasn't a massive difference but noticeable and enough for me to get myself a new phone before I realised i was related to the update.

I know you are looking at getting the 17 series phone and USB-C is a nice feature.
I kind of regret getting the 16 pro, its not that big a difference and if it wouldn't have been for a specific app that can't be backed up and need a phone transfer to work, I would have done a battery swap on my 13 pro.

So....change battery (and do it in an Apple store so you get it propely done with OEM components), that's what I would have done and wait and see what you think of the 17 series or possibly the 18 series.

I just replaced the battery in my 14 Pro a couple days ago. I feel like I can get at least another year or two out of this phone. I just don’t see any features worth upgrading to right now. If for some reason I need to use Apple Intelligence, I have my iPad or Mac I could use for now. Even USB-C is a bit of a burden for me right now as I have so many lightning accessories and other devices that use that cable still. And my spouse has a 14 Pro as well, so it's always nice that we can share charging cables when needed.

Hopefully, I don’t end up eating these words finding out I'm going to be hardware locked out of some huge feature announced today though.

Literally just had my battery replaced last week because I was in the same boat. Battery was down to 78% max and said to have ti serve - I've never seen that before. Way too close to the new releases to not limp along until September.
