As a ‘regular’ iPhone user I have always found them to be the sweet spot for my needs. I currently have a 13 and was looking forward to seeing what the 14 had to offer. However, try as I might I can barely see any rumours that apply to the regular iPhone 14 (besides the Max size option, but that’s a different phone!). All I’ve seen is updated RF chip, WiFi 6E and slightly improved front camera? Even the chipset is going to be the same.

Am I missing something, or is that looking to be the sum total of the improvements? Maybe there will be software-based features as well?

PS I get that annual upgrades are incremental by nature and not the norm, but still - there doesn’t seem to be much if ANY difference this time around!

Pretty much what you listed, but there should be an increase to 6 GB RAM and the A15 should be the 5 Core GPU version that was/is in the 13 Pro. I guess for those coming from an Iphone 11, and maybe a 12 it could be seen as an upgrade.

Yeah I’m in a similar situation, I upgrade most years and 12 -> 13 was a surprisingly big jump. I prefer the non pro lines too, the Pro is too heavy and I don’t really like the camera bump. As you say there doesn’t seem to be any difference this time, like no new features. Hope there’s at least a cool colour

Hopefully no notch.
That won't be the case for the non-pro version and the pill on the Pros will be as obtrusive as the notch.

To the OP, I would hold on to your 13 or look to upgrade to the Pro versions, otherwise it seems you would be getting pretty much the same phone.

Yeah it seems weird that Apple isn’t trying to entice 13 regular owners to upgrade (or maybe they are…to the Pro models!). I suppose they are doing me a favour really in leading me to stick for another year with my 13.
I suppose they could always introduce a 14-exclusive software feature(s) like they did with Cinematic mode on the 13…?

There's typically no huge selling point to upgrade year over year. But this year, for the standard models specifically - there's most likely going to be no point. The biggest upgrade (supposedly) will be with the Pro line.

6GB RAM and auto focus front camera are confirmed.

An easy upgrade for Apple would be 1,000 nit display and 5-core GPU.
What they need is a way to keep it cooler in the hot sun, so even the 1k nits PM screen isn't made useless by screen heat throttling

They want people that will switch brands or haven’t upgraded since the 6,7,8,X to buy a new phone

Car manufacturers don’t make significant upgrades year to year unless it’s a new gen or refresh year

Yeah that’s a fair point - I get that annual upgrades are probably not the norm. Perhaps I’ve been spoilt with the last couple of upgrades which have brought multiple new features/improvements. Even 12 to 13 was a noticeable upgrade as previous poster mentioned.

To put it another way: has there ever been a more modest annual update to a similar series phone than this is shaping up to be?

its better to get a 13 regular now than waiting for 14 regular and pay extra 100$+ as they will be having almost similar specs (oh ya, may be a new rainbow colors to choose from ) .
But yes if you are looking for 14 Max or any of the pro version then better to wait till launch
