The iPhone 14 lineup's Emergency SOS via satellite and Find My via satellite features will launch in four additional countries next month, Apple today announced.

In its press release announcing that Emergency SOS and Find My via satellite for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models will roll out later today, Apple mentioned that the feature will be coming to France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK in December, following the debut of the service in North America. In September, a report claimed that Apple would launch Emergency SOS via satellite in additional countries before the end of 2022, followed by even more regions next year.

The feature is set to officially launch later today for iPhone 14 users running iOS 16.1 in the United States and Canada only. The service is included for free for two years starting at the time of activation of a new iPhone 14 model.

So how does the subscription work? Is it 2 years per iPhone (i.e. if you buy an iPhone 16 in 2 years you get another 2 years free) or 2 years per iCloud account (i.e. you get 2 years free and that's it, no matter how many iPhones you buy)?

Starting at the time of activation of a new iPhone 14 model. Does this mean two years after you turn on the feature, or two years after you activated the phone to begin with, in which case, early buyers have already lost two months of time?

According to the "small print" section* in the press release, it looks like it'll run from the date the service is available in your country:

"4. Users who purchased an iPhone 14 model before the availability date of Emergency SOS via satellite will receive two years of the service free starting from the service availability date."

This is great news, I thought it would take them years. Now I can go get lost in the Scottish Highlands 🤗
Next bring mmW 5G here too!

What does it mean available in the UK?

Phone bought in the UK (or on UK App Store) and being in an emergency in Africa? Will it work?
Or...
Phone bought in Africa and going for holidays in the UK? Will it work?

I pay more for the same device in my country and have zero support. There's not even SIRI. This is a scam.

I'm paying for services I don't have. I finance services for people in the US and Germany.
So you think that the iPhone would cost less this year if it didn't have this feature? It costs the same as it did last year, when this service didn't even exist.

When you buy an iPhone, you buy hardware, software and services. Since the services included in the price of the iPhone in the US do not exist in my country and Apple does not bear any costs, I should pay less.
It's really simple.

Maybe it costs the same for you in the US. Everywhere else this year the prices have been bumped up!
The iPhone price in my country is 25% higher this year. Much greater than the exchange rate difference. Here, too, Apple makes extra money.

I disagree, but reach out to Apple — perhaps they will see things your way ;)
