So, I came here and registered to say this: yes. It causes issues. It prevents me from using my thumb while scrolling or reaching to touch, because my hand lightly brushes the camera button. Hopefully they release an update to address this.

When you go to pick up any phone, your fingers grip it by its sides. My 14 Pro is heavy - so I need to grasp it firmly. The new Camera Control button will be RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the right side. In between the Side button and the bottom. This is the meaty portion of the side ~ where one gets the best grip. How do you keep from activating the Camera button when picking it up .., or even just handling it ????
I’m assuming you want to get the 16 Pro. The placement is better on that model versus the 16 PM because it isn’t as big and heavy.

As a 16 PM user, I think the button placement is terrible in both orientations. It’s too far left in landscape and too low in portrait. I absolutely will not be using the button and it pains me to say that as I was very excited for it.

I wish the camera button was further down the side of the phone right near the bottom right corner. It makes it easier to use your pointer finger to swipe and press while holding in landscape (16 Pro)

felt the button is alittle high up and stiff which led to blurry photo if your grip isn't strong enough or have small hands.

Seems adequate to me. I am beginning to like it. If you don’t, do not use it. You can still do it the “old fashioned way” and pinch your screen.

I'm annoyed the iPhone 15 Pro Max does not have a setting that can turn OFF screen shots.. The buttons to activate that feature being located opposite each other on the phone means a lot of unintentional screen shots..

Also.. volume buttons are WAY TOO sensitive !!!!

Apple needs to fix this !

You’re kinda right about this.
Because of the position of that button I couldn’t press my iPhone 16 Pro Max firmly with my one hand to take a selfie and, after being pushed in a crowd, it slipped out of my hand.

I have big hands and, even so, the location of the button was too far away. However, I believe that this decision was made by those who use the device vertically to take photos/videos. Currently, I only use the button to open the camera app and change the exposure when taking photos/videos.

So the new camera button - was shooting for a friend for a while yesterday afternoon and wow the button placement is terrible!
When trying to capture an image landscape, the button is awkwardly placed slight too far across.
When trying to capture portrait it's not far up enough.
It just feels all wrong and completely uncomfortable.
Or does it take some getting used to?

The placement is pretty good for me. But the critical key is I have it set so that one click does nothing when not in the camera app—I have to double click it to launch the camera. One click would cause too many accidental camera launches.
Once I’m in the camera app, the Camera Control is also in a good position for easy access. There are two ways I hold my phone (16PM) when taking a picture, both usually one handed. One grip is pretty much like a normal vertical phone—so as a right hander, with my thumb on the right edge of the phone and my fingers on the left edge, but my hand shifted down on the phone a little so the bottom right corner of the phone rests on my palm/base of my thumb. In this position the Camera Control is within easy reach of my thumb. I can easily rotate my phone to horizontal orientation with this grip, but with my elbow sticking out a little awkwardly. If I know I want to take a horizontal photo/video then I grab my phone (still vertical) with my thumb on the left edge and my fingers on the right edge with my pointer finger resting on the Camera Control, which makes it natural to hold horizontally. Likewise, I can easily rotate back to vertical with this grip but I have to tuck my elbow in which gets a little awkward again.

I’d say the major advantage of Camera Control is a completely consistent way to launch the camera app no matter what state the phone is in (screen on/off, lock screen, home screen, using an app, etc). Maybe this can also be done with the Action Button, but with the Camera Control once the camera app is open I also find it convenient to just keep my finger/thumb on the Camera Control to switch cameras if needed and press the shutter. From launch to shutter is very fast so I’ve been able to capture extremely fleeting moments that I’m not sure I would have caught as well otherwise. It’s gotten so I pretty much only use the Camera Control for the camera now. But at the same time, I don’t think it would be the end of the world if I had to make do with just the Action Button.
