So last evening I played around with the iPhone 16pro max.
I took a spatial photo of a part of our back yard and then from the same vantage point a “normal” photo.
Sent both to them to the Vision Pro to compare them.
I was surprised to find that the “normal” iPhone photo converted by the Vision Pro OS2.1 beta to partial looked “sharper” and perhaps even more “3d”.
The original spatial photo from the iPhone seems to have less resolution/detail.
I thought I take more test pictures today but was too busy at work.

Did anyone here compare their “spatial” pictures in the Vision Pro?
My guess is that the wide angle camera is “screwing” with the details and contrast of the photo from the main camera when they get merged.

Other than that, I Ike the phone, coming from a iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Just speculating here. But for years now, people have railed against the soap opera effect of televisions that take programming originally filmed at 24 fps and interpolate the data to raise the frame rate to 60 fps. While watching, it gives the viewer a sense of increased clarity. But what it lacks is the reality of the original film.

A 2D photo can have incredible clarity, none of which gets lost in the calculation to add the 3D effect, but perhaps that pair of cameras are being run in a mode to have the cameras complement each other and, perhaps, simply lack the clarity of the 2D camera. But I'd wonder about the quality of actual separate images as opposed to calculated separate images.

I noticed today that the spatial photos taken with the iphone have the label “portrait”
So perhaps the setting for the artificial “aperture” is set too “low” blurring most of the picture artificially?
Just guessing here of corse.

When i try to change the portrait settings for the picture on the phone, a message pops up stating that this will cancel the spatial effect.
To revert back to spatial, the original picture needs to be restored.

I also noticed that the picture gets “smaller” when spatial is turned on. Meaning all edges of the original gets cut to some extent.
That is with the original spatial photo from the iphone and also with the “fake” spatial photo.
Just turn the effect in the Apple Vision Pro on and off to see the effect.
Not sure why? If the picture is taken with the main camera and the wide angle picture is used for the “offset” shouldn’t the picture edges stay the same since the wide angle has a wider view?

Yes, I noticed the same thing in my initial tests. I compared spatial photo against a regular photo that was converted in Vision Pro. They are both close but I thought the converted ones had more details. Especially for elements in the distance. They also seem to have better 3D and felt more like I had more “presence” viewing the photo. This is disappointing because the spatial photo feature is one of the reasons I upgraded to iPhone 16. I’ve been looking online to see if there is a camera setting I am missing to improve the spatial photo quality.

I don`t have my iPhone 16 max yet, but the reason I upgraded was also because of the spatial photo ability. Now I can't wait to get it to try it also. Not good news for that option, so far.

I did play around with settings but nothing seem to change the spatial photo.
I turned on the 48mp for the wide angle but not sure if this would make a difference since the raw setting disappears once on spatial.
The picture for sure doesnt change.if anything it is a little darker on top of anything.
