now that the Air is revealed its best competitor is against the 16e because of they’re similarities primarily that the fact that they have one single camera which is 48MP Each and they have they’re own versions of a 2 in 1 camera.

Also an Apple designed modem which IMHO Completely unifies the two iPhone Models together. Let’s see how the C1X is better than the C1.

A part of the iPhone Air wouldn’t exist without the 16e one of the most important iPhones to have been created because of the C1 Modem ( thanks Qualcomm slowly C1X expands quickly)

If I stay with Apple it will be between the Air and 17e. Both are about the same weight (I want a light phone), and I’m glad the Air is 6.5” and not the rumored 6.6”, but I don’t know if the Air will be too big for my hands like the 15 Plus was. Granted the Air is a little smaller and much thinner, I guess I will have to hold it in the store to decide.

Thinner and wider/bigger seems like it’ll be more unwieldy if anything

Recently bought the 16e and glad I didn't wait for the Air or any of the other 17 models. With the Air so similar to the 16e (such as single camera lens as you mentioned), I don't see the Air at 67% more expensive to be worth it. The chip difference I'd hardly notice. Thinness no big deal to me. Only the slightly larger display would be nice, but still not worth it to me.

I use the 16e for my work phone. I plan on ordering the Air on Friday unless the orange color of the pro gets the best of me. It will be interesting to see how the Air will fare in hand to the Air (which will be my personal phone).

I have debated this also. I live in the US so the 16e is $599, the Air is $999. The Air has a bigger display, little better processor and 12gb of RAM, not sure if that really makes up for the $400 increase in price.

16e (and 13 mini still, too) is routinely checking all the boxes, even at full price. A 6.5” screen and/or vapor chamber for rigorous tasks like streaming music to CarPlay or sending emails just seems like overkill.

I hear you. I analyze the heck out of the speck comparisons, and most importantly look at what I use my phone for. I'm really thinking the "e" model will be just fine for me and saving $400 is just a bonus. If I get an "e" model would probably wait for the 17e as I don't need a phone right now and that is only six months away. Plus the rumors right now are that the 17e will get Dynamic Island and personally that is a feature that I like having.

That's how I see it too. The Air just didn't enhance the experience or my needs over the 16e for that expense. I'd rather use that $400 savings toward a future generation (maybe even the 17e).

I have been contemplating this as well, but I think I am leaning the other way for me I am comparing $699 to $999 because I like 256GB storage. Then the air has better front and rear cameras, Promotion display with the dynamic island, magsafe, and then add on the form factor difference of being so much thinner and it starts to tip the scales toward the air.

I hope someone who does the reviews thinks to do a direct comparison between the two.

I'd really like a comparison between the two single-lens cameras. Spec sheets look very similar and I'm no photographer, so I'd love some deciphering.

16e owner here. The battery life, the camera and the weight are almost the same. The bigger display size, 120Hz and dynamic island are big pros I think. But then there is this camera bump that is non existent when the 16e is in a case. But I like the Air from what I've seen so far.

Seems like the 16e has a slight edge on battery life.

But the air does add, like you mentioned, the dynamic island (probably most important thing since it has become very useful to many apps), bigger screen, and ProMotion.

But you forget...

1. MagSafe, which is very important for many accessory options. I have a night stand I use with it, and was annoying not to be able to during my brief stint with the 16e. Also, magnetic battery banks (way more convenient than carrying a cable), magnetic stands too. You can maybe get a third party 16e case that has MagSafe, but with that you still only get 7.5 watt charging versus 20 watt on the Air.

2. Camera is actually better on the Air. It has sensor shift stabilization, an actual hardware improvement, so you will get much less blurry photos and better low light/night photos & videos.

3. Selfie camera is much improved also. Better quality, with the new feature of being able to do landscape while holding the phone in portrait. It makes a HUGE difference in that people now look like they're looking at the camera in landscape mode, versus looking off to the side. Improves the quality of your memories.

4. Always on Display. This might not be a huge deal to some, but it is a cool feature to have.

The 16e starts at $599 but the 256GB is $699. So it's 30% cheaper than the Air (which starts at 256GB). Is it worth 30% to add these features? Some may say no, but I think that's a long list of improvements that tips it toward a yes.

I have a 16e and I don't need to charge it with a cable. It charges wirelessly with my Qi-certified wireless charger just fine and quickly. I'm very happy with the 16e. The few features the Air additionally has to me are definitely not worth the extra $400 (67%) upcharge. They're too similar in key features and functions to me.
