In a blog post today about Apple's foldable iPhone plans, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the rumored iPhone 17 Air will have a "high-density" battery.

Specifically, he said that Apple's first foldable iPhone model "will use the same high-density battery cells as the ultra-thin iPhone 17."

Kuo did not share any precise Wh/mAh battery capacity figures.

While there have been some concerns that the iPhone 17 Air's ultra-thin design would result in limited battery life, due to size constraints, the device might end up beating expectations in this regard. There are now three rumored features for the iPhone 17 Air that should contribute to the device having longer battery life than some might have expected, including the high-density battery calls, Apple's power-efficient C1 modem, and the lack of an Ultra Wide camera providing more internal space for a larger battery.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air in September. Kuo previously said the device will measure just 5.5mm at its thinnest point.

I'm still confused on the "Air" naming of this device. Is "Air" going to just be the non-pro models moving forward or is the Air a different device all together?
Good point! What if the so-called iPhone Air were actually the new Apple flip phone?

Technically the regular iPhones were/are ‘Air’ devices in terms of their positioning as premium midrange offerings similar to the ipad air and macbook airs specs.

I am really quite confused about this phone.

Yup, you can have thinner phone! Except... well... the camera bump, which will be the width of the device (supposedly) will be pretty much double the thickness of your whole phone.

That'll be awkward.

I think it’s the prelude to the book-fold.

A thin and light iPhone intrigues me, though the rumoured lack of a wide angle lens might stop me, as that is too useful for my work.

My last phone was an iPhone 8 Plus, and I was hoping for my next phone to be a XX, but I have a feeling that’s going to be the folding iPhone.

I’ll probably end up with a Pro/Pro Max because of the cameras and LiDAR.

the air supposed to be apply to the lightest and thinnest products. any other use is apple corrupting their own marketing. for example the MacBook Air computer should just be macbook

I’m not sure how that’s awkward. The camera bar will take up like 10% of the surface area of the back of the phone. Overall, the total volume of the phone will be dramatically smaller.

No point in trying to figure it out now since we don't even know that it's called the "Air" at all. That's just the name that people have given it as it seems to be analogous to the iPad Air or MacBook Air.

So they're testing C1 modem in 16e and new battery tech in 17 Air. New tech is there, but it's not ready for 17 / 17 Pro prime time. Next year's models sound more interesting to me.

It replaces the Plus, similar to how the Plus replaced the mini. It’s a thinner Plus with some trade-offs, and presumably to already make use of some tech on the road to a foldable model.

I think the iPhone looking forward to and which I am most excited for is going to be the 20th anniversary model in 2027. Apple might skip the 19 and go straight to the 20 (or XX) after the 18.
