I realise technically it's not a backlight with an OLED screen; but when I put the phone to sleep or wake it up, the screen doesn't dim or brighten smoothly, it judders and dims/brightens in stages, it's all very quick but it's noticeable.

Anyone else? Is this likely to be a hardware issue?

I had the same issue but only when there's a notification on the lockscreen.

It is because the display try to adjust the background blur to see notifications more clearly...

Once you have a notification and wake up or block the display, the brightness changes down abruptly.

Right now i'm at 26.2 and i haven't seen the issue, try to update and check if it's still happening.
