The base model iPhone 17 will have an A19 chip after all, according to Apple analyst Jeff Pu.

A few months ago, Pu said the device would have an A18 chip, but he has now reversed course.

"We now expect the iPhone 17 model to be equipped with A19 (vs. earlier expectation of A18)," Pu said today, in an investor note with equity research firm GF Securities. He also expects the iPhone 17 Air to have an A19 chip, and he said the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be powered by an A19 Pro chip.

Even still, there are some conflicting rumors about the chips for the iPhone 17 series.

Last week, a Weibo account known as Fixed Focus Digital said the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with an A19 Pro chip, instead of an A19 chip. However, the account said the A19 Pro chip will have a 5-core GPU in the iPhone 17 Air, whereas he expects the chip to have a 6-core GPU in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

At least rumors agree on the base model iPhone 17 having an A19 chip now.

Just two months to go until the iPhone 17 series is official.

I'm interested in the regular 17, it's just a shame the rumours point to it having less RAM than the other phones in the lineup:confused:

Someone at apple released that everyone would buy the regular 16 at least a $100 discount, otherwise.

Most people probably will anyway.

Hmmm… still wondering if the A18 having two different chip designs (and not just using binning and putting the best chips in the Pros) was a one off or would be the standard going forward. If this rumour is true there may be two different versions of the A19 as well.

The chip was set at least a year ago, if not two.

They’ve likely been producing the phones for six months already.

Isn’t an extra GPU core literally the difference between the A18 and A18 Pro? I don’t know why there’s any surprise or confusion over the A19 and A19 Pro - nor which phones they will go into. The iPhone 17 series seems to be sticking with Apple’s current conventions. The A19 Pro with one less GPU core amounts to an A19. And it’s going into the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air the way the A18 (an A18 Pro with one less GPU core) is in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.

I think they have different usb controllers as well… usb2 vs usb3

Who will this matter too? I'm sure I wouldn't know the difference as well as 99.9% or more of users. Only importance is that Apple keeps making improvements without falling behind or screwing up

That's right, folks, the tiny startup on the bleeding edge, Apple, is once again putting the BEST, MOST POWERFUL chip in the ALL NEW iPhone 17. Apple was testing both the A18 and the A19 and discovered, at the very last minute, that the A18 just wasn't good enough to produce game-changing effects that truly delighted ultra pro customers of the ALL NEW iPhone 17. So, they had to pull the A18 and put the A19 in the iPhone 17. Apple can't wait to see the incredible things customers are able to do with the game-changing, best-in-class A19, with privacy only Apple can produce. Apple thinks you're gonna love it!

Apple is the Xbox of tech, always slowing it down. Low ram means the industry has to suffer featureless for another year

Will all models have 12GB starting ram for local AI model. 16 AI buyers in shambles 🤔

It will add to class action fuel if they gimp the 16 series. I expect that they’re going to do this though, and I expect they’re going to limit the “made for Apple Intelligence” phones in some ways before they ever even ship what they promised.

Does it matter?. Apple chooses to NOT bring feautures to super capable phones. It is a matter of planned obsolescence.
