iPhone 17 models will feature a redesigned Dynamic Island user interface, according to a post today from Digital Chat Station, an account with more than three million followers on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The account has accurately leaked some information regarding future Apple products in the past.

The account did not share any specific details about the alleged changes that are planned for the Dynamic Island, but the mention of a new user interface makes it sound like there will be some changes on the software side. It may be that iOS 26 introduces a redesigned Dynamic Island exclusively on all iPhone 17 models.

On the hardware side, Dynamic Island rumors have been conflicting. It was initially rumored that the iPhone 17 Pro Max might have a smaller Dynamic Island area compared to the iPhone 17 Pro and earlier iPhone models, but it was later reported that such a change might not be happening until the iPhone 18 Pro models. And if a smaller Dynamic Island cutout ends up happening this year, one source said it would be on all iPhone 17 models.

All in all, it sounds like there is a decent chance that the Dynamic Island will change in some way on iPhone 17 models, for the first time since the feature was introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022. Apple should unveil the iPhone 17 series in early September, so we will find out for sure in around two months from now.

Why doesn’t Apple allow user options what of their junk appears in the dynamic islamd?
This! I find it such a disjointed and poor user experience since some notifications come from the DI and others don’t. It’s pretty terrible when I get a DI and text message notification at the same time. Lol. A quarter of the screen gets filled.

Oh boy. How exciting. /s

It's still a stupid pill cutout in the screen. Doesn't need to be there, never needed to be there, needs to go away. Objectively worse than a bezel.
The receding hairline notch was a poor implementation also. The push for uniqueness and brand recognition from a distance I get but it was and is hideous. Just like their laptops. Lol. Why!

Is this really newsworthy? A workaround for an unpopular hardware design will change slightly. I don't know why I should care.

Classic. The Dynamic Island needs the A19 to make it more useful.
Literally.
Just like stage manager. For them it was so powerful that it needed at least M1 to work but suddenly with iPadOS 26 it runs even on an iPad with A12 chip lol
I mean it's great that they finally bring window management to older iPads but it shows how they lie and intentionally limit software features for older products.

Yes, introduce another variant of what happens when an app that actively does something is minimized.

Shouldn't that be rumor-worthy? OTOH... many people immediately leap to the conclusion rumors are facts.

As long as they keep it a an option I'll be happy.

Or, as they rewrote parts of the OS they found a way to make it work on older iPads rather than just move on from them; never attribute to malice to taht adequately explained by source code issues...

Nothing really to do with finding a way to make it work, Apple artificially limited stage manager on the iPad Mini and some older iPads, it could be forcefully enabled with some workarounds and it actually worked great. So in this case it's Apple being dicks and blocking it for no real reason except to force you to purchase the more expensive and newer devices.

Plenty of videos on YT showing how to force stage manager on, on unsupported devices. Thankfully in iOS 26 Apple has been kind enough to just turn the damn feature on for devices that could have run it fine from the beginning.

Possible but it may be only for the Pro Max/Pro model and probably for the Air too. Will be happy to see the change happening for the base model too but have to wait and see.

I guess i am upgrading my 12 pro max to a somewhat newer dynamic island.

I have no interest in just a slimmed down version of the dynamic island so I will pass on the 18 pro max.

However the punch hole on the iphone 20 & full screen with no islands or cutouts on the iphone 22 sounds more promising.
