I recently upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro, running iOS 26.2. When I see my recent caller list and try to place a phone call by pressing the call icon on the right, sometimes it initiates the call in the background while continuing to show me the recent caller list. I'd have to click the call icon in the top notch to bring up the call screen.

Anyone found out a way to fix this bug? I've tried resetting the phone, restoring via Mac, starting fresh instead of from backup but nothing seems to fix it.

Dude which view of the phone app are you using? The new iOS 26 one or the old view from pre-iOS 26?

Turn this setting off too below 👇

This happened again, I broke it down:

When I check my recent call list and try to place a call by tapping the call icon on the right, sometimes the call starts in the background, but the recent caller list stays visible. To bring up the call screen, I have to click the call icon in the top notch. Even after doing this, the call shows as running in the top notch, but it doesn't ring.

I encountered a similar issue on WhatsApp. While chatting with a friend, I tapped the phone icon in the top-right corner, but nothing happened. Later, when I exited WhatsApp, I noticed the call was running in the background, but, again, there was no ringing.

Just checking, is your Dynamic Island turned on for live activities? If you’re new to it, especially if you’re came from an iPhone 13 or earlier, you can see your call controls when they’re not in full screen through there.

Also, have you set a ringtone for the Phone and WhatsApp app? And do all your contacts have ringtones?

Finally, make sure silent mode is turned on in the Control Center, or if you’ve set it as a lock screen control or in Settings > Sounds and Haptics > Silent Mode.
