The pro line is bound to receive a price bump this year. Since 2018 with the XS, Apple has kept the price at $999 with a $100 on the max equivalent phone (while they discontinued the 128gb pro max, the other model prices haven’t increased).

I think the kicker will be the 17 Air. It is last rumored to be $999 starting and the introduction of this new line gives Apple an excuse to restructure pricing. If they increase the price of the pros by $100, you are given this clean pricing ladder:

iPhone 16e128 gb$600
iPhone 17128 gb$800
iPhone 17 Air128 gb?$1000
iPhone 17 pro256 gb$1200
iPhone 17 pro max256 gb$1300

With Samsung already setting the bar at $1300 for top of the line, I can’t imagine Apple is too far away. But the pricing and discontinuation of the 128 gb pro model is speculative and I’m just looking for thoughts.

With the new US tariffs already raising prices of other OEM computers, I’m sure Apple isn't too far behind with their lineup. They probably won’t absorb that extra cost forever.

I'd imagine a lot of consumers will consider downgrading if this is true as prices are already at the very top end. I paid £1200 for my 16 Pro Max and will keep it 2 or 3 years. I won't be paying more than that so will either buy the last years device at that point or downgrade to a standard iPhone. I am no mug.

Air must be the most expensive one camera phone ever

I think people will also go even longer between upgrades. I went from 14PM->16PM and other than a worse colour (from Deep Purple to Natural Titanium) and a slightly more comfortable form factor, it’s exactly the bloody same in day-to-day use. It’s no faster, the camera’s no better, the screen’s no better, etc. Oh, I’m sure there are benchmarks proving this and that performance uplift, but in the hand? Nah.

It’s going to take something monumental to make me replace my 16PM before the 20.
