I have a Netgear Orbi 870 mesh network, with 2 satellites.

My iPhone 16 Pro with the Broadcom WiFi chip would roam to the nearest access point quickly and efficiently so I always got the best WiFi speeds.

I’ve noticed that my iPhone 17 Pro with Apple’s N1 WiFi chip doesn’t do this. When I move from one floor of the house, or one end of the house to another, the WiFi signal weakens and it doesn’t switch to the AP with the best signal, until I turn WiFi off and then back again. Once I have manually disconnected and reconnected, my signal strength goes back up, and my speed tests go from 60Mbps to 800-900Mbps.

Hopefully this gets fixed in an OS Update.

My WiFi and cellular signal is considerably weaker with the iPhone seventeen Pro Max than it was with my previous fifteen Pro Max. I also noticed my WiFi doesn’t switch to the stronger signal in my house when I move from one house to the other. I have to manually switch it everytime.

Edit: no idea why it does this when I try and post anything. If I make any post and add number instead of typing them out I get emojis

Thankfully my cell signal seems stronger.

It’s just this AP switching issue that bugs me. It should be a simple thing. I guess that’s the risk of using gen 1 WiFi tech from Apple instead of industry leading Broadcom chips.

It’s not an apple to apples comparison but I just tested my 17PM with my TP Link Deco system and the roaming was quick. I moved to the other side of my house and it handed off to the other node right away.

However the wifi speeds of the N1 are slightly slower than my 16PM overall.

I had this issue, in addition to the wifi the Bluetooth cutting out when moving through the house, also with a series of mesh extenders. Let Apple know, and a very lovely support lady kindly asked me to go to the store and exchange the phone (since I was in my 14 day window) and if both phones had the issue, to call back—as her instinct was that its hardware.

Lo and behold, the new phone has no issue.

Reset Network Settings helped me with the WiFi issues I experienced on my 17 PM.

I installed iOS 26.1 beta 3 and it’s been working. 🤞🏻

I have a similar WiFi setup, but I use UniFi access points. I’m experiencing the same issues (and have since day 1), and unfortunately updating to iOS 26.1 has not fixed the issue. Next I’m going to try and take the phone back
