Apple is selling us the 'best technology' without really maxing out on their range.

I saw this and was blown away
and thought the iPhone 18 won't even be this good ( 7,500mAh battery / supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging)

What kept me with the iPhone is the os, but this liquid bubble glass effect is so bad that it makes me want to jump ship.

The most impressive aspect of the line up is the battery capacity.
And still, they barely beat iPhone (+ more power hungry Liquid Glass UI) in battery drain test:
When Apple introduce phones with the same battery technology, I will most probably upgrade again as all of the phones in the line up will easily have full day battery life.
This can be a factor for second attempt of a mini iPhone.

Then go ahead, jump. Do what makes you happy and feel good!

But why the heck do people have to tell the world about it? „Look at me, I am such a tough guy, not falling for *insert company here* marketing anymore!“

Go ahead, jump whatever ship you like! No one cares!

I get what OP is saying. Why so serious?

To be fair it's not just Apple, Samsung and Google as well. Milking the North American market.

Silicon Carbon has been out for a while and why couldn't they use it on the Air and edge?

Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc. I'm not loyal to one company.

It's nothing new or no surprise that alot of these manufacturers totally destroy the iPhone with crazy specs.... However they run android which doesn't always lead to a good seamless experience. Also resale value is absolute trash no matter how highly spec'd

So anyway, back in reality…

“In an earlier battery drain test conducted by TechDroider, Xiaomi's 17 Pro Max narrowly beat the iPhone 17 Pro Max, clocking 13 hours and 36 minutes of usage compared to Apple's 13 hours and 31 minutes. The test simulated intensive real-world activity including gaming, YouTube playback, web browsing and 4K video recording.”

Also:
Silicon carbon batteries degrade significantly quicker. That along with regulatory concerns is why companies like Apple, Samsung and Google haven’t adopted them.

That's okay, thank you for telling me.

No, really it's okay. I can handle it. You see, by the time the iPhone 18 series launches I will most likely be early on in my ownership of an iPhone 16 Pro Max. So…I totally avoid this calamity!

But again, thanks for the heads up! I mean, almost five years of using the iPhone 11 Pro Max now - I might not have been aware this would happen! But you were watching my back, so thanks!

Yeah sure.. and the next Lexus will be no match for… the next.. uhm… MG or some other CCP brand destroying our industries across the west…

Never going to be interested in any CCP device regardless of how genuinely, objectively better it may someday be than Apple’s offering, or any other free-world company. Yes.. I know the iPhone is made there too but that’s eventually going to be phased out and as long as Apple move out of there I’m firmly on its side.

At some point, hopefully the CCP will ban Apple and they can re-prioritise their efforts and mean what they say when they go on about human rights.

If we are being honest, Apple never tells us they are selling the best technology, they tell us they are selling the best iPhone, which is true.

The Chinese have certainly made huge strides, I was an avid Huawei user for a long time up until all the banning happened. I had the likes of Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro, both were absolute monsters in their time both in terms of overall performance and battery life (including. Battery charging speeds), it was like having your cake and eating it, truly unreal stuff. I would charge my P30 Pro in the morning with the 40W charger while showering and in less than an hour it was at 100% then the battery has enough juice for the full day which it easily lasted.

What always was a bit of a problem was the software quality and lack of thorough support by social media apps of camera APIs etc… e.g. you have the Instagram app but the Camera function in that app doesn’t support fully taking advantage of the powerful hardware the Huawei has, so pictures would look average and videos would look pretty bad.
Also, accessories support from 3rd parties wasn’t great, along with ecosystem not being as powerful as Apple’s, too much reliance on Microsoft and Google, a lot of duplication etc…it all got messy.

Xiaomi don’t seem to be as on the ball as Huawei was either, I also see that often times the top Xiaomi stuff often stays within China, even MKBHD’s one is a China model, we don’t get the very best outside of China.
It seems the likes of Xiaomi are also not exactly great at software optimisation, despite large batteries they barely beat iPhone battery life.

Have the older Xiaomi 15 Ultra and 15T Pro received their Android 16 updates yet?
I don’t believe Xiaomi is good at updates either.

This exactly! Huge 7500mAh battery only to last 5 minutes longer than the iPhone with 4832mAh battery, lol!
Xiaomi are not at all good at software optimisation or updates.
The guy in the video is even mentioning how the Xiaomi was heating up throughout the test…not good

Until the Xiaomi runs Pixelmator, Scrivener, Apple Podcasts, Assassin's Creed Mirage and Halide it won't be better than my iPhone.

As someone who lives in the U.S. and has owned every iPhone since the iPhone 4, currently 17PM, and also owned the Xiaomi 14 and 15 Ultra, I'll say no way is it better than the iPhone experience. Yes the latest SD Elite is a beast. Beyond that? HyperOS really isn't that great. It's a pretty Android skin. You only get quarterly security updates. Living in the U.S., good luck getting any kind of support should something happen. Until recently the Xiaomi phones didn't support band 71 which is crucial for T-Mobile. The 15 Ultra has it as does the new 17 Pro Max which is huge. Want WiFi calling? Good luck, not supported without running adb commands and modifying deep settings, only to revert back to unusable a few days later. You can't unlock the bootloader any longer. Resale value will absolutely plummet after you buy it, no one (sadly) wants to buy a used Xiaomi phone here. Xiaomi's and every other Chinese OEM's dynamic island is just a poor man's version of iOS and Apple's implementation of live activities is supreme. No one else even comes close, not even Samsung with its half-baked Now Bar.

The new silicon carbide battery tech is in its infancy. The iPhone used in the battery test isn't even the e-sim version with larger battery, so the (U.S.) e-sim version will last even longer. You get a solid charger in the box with Xiaomi at least. The only hardware features I like on Xiaomi compared to iPhones is faster charging and the DC dimming feature, it is actually useful on Xiaomi phones.

Just my two cents having used two recent Xiaomi flagships. It isn't even close. I wish it weren't the case, sad state of affairs here in the cell phone industry. OnePlus is our only hope over here.

Firstly, it’s impossible to say how good or bad the iPhone 18 will be when the 17 has only just launched.🤷🏽

But a more important consideration is that Apple doesn’t just develop a phone, they have to consider a whole ecosystem.
Apple has to ensure seamless operation with other devices such as iPods.
That’s as well as the whole data across multiple devices, ensuring options such as Fitness+, HomeKit and Apple Watch interact as needed.
This will add constraints and to a certain extent I’m sure it partly explains what some may consider a conservative approach.
🤷🏽
