I've had an iPhone since day one and I have yet to purchase a 3G version. I really liked my iPhone, until I upgraded to 2.0. There are a number of bugs/problems I have noticed including...

* Mail stops working and the phone has to be rebooted.
* The option to listen to voicemail via BT ear piece is no longer available.
* The text message alert I have chosen stops working randomly.
* UI is *much* less responsive.
* Syncing is a nightmare that takes forever.
* MobileMe simply doesn't do what it advertises.

Maybe it's just me? Oh well, my question is whether I can downgrade to the last firmware version just prior to 2.0. Is this possible?

I know they did their best, and that it has better battery life than all other 3G smartphones, but still the biggest disappointment for me is...

Battery Life

Battery life is what it is......The device does so much that it just sucks the battery to death. I'm sure Apple has done everything possible to maximize battery life but only so much is possible until lower power chips become available.
