So the video podcasts are available to download as well, no? Does the podcast section work over GSM networks or only wifi?
Hmm... that's a bummer. I'm wondering what's keeping them from allowing it over a cell connection. The licensing issues that exist with music and other purchased content doesn't apply here. It'd be great to be able to update my audio news pods over gsm, but I guess that this is still a good start.I downloaded a 49 mb podcast in about 1 minute and its only over wifi
Only over wifi? =(
That sorta defeats the purpose of being able to download a podcast on the go.
How are you getting the podcast store on the iPhone ?
Amazing. Thanks for sharing. Now all I have to do is be patient.LOOK
Wow. Another feature that NOONE has asked for. Are the powers that be at Apple sitting in their office saying "I know lots of people want copy/paste, mms etc. but, lets give them a podcast store instead, that will be better, we think"
Unbelievable.
I see, says the blind man to the deaf man.
Nobody except the millions that use podcasts on the iPhone OS, I guess. Go figure.Wow. Another feature that NOONE has asked for.
I beg to differ. Just because it isn't important to you doesn't mean it isn't important to others. People who travel for business and can't bring along a very large iTunes library would love the ability to download updated Podcasts while on the road. This is a great new feature and I can't wait to use it.
While I agree with you on the importance of podcasts to people including myself, couldnt this have been added as app from the app store instead of waiting for a firmware update. Afterall, its been on jailbroken phones for many months. Its a good addition, but it doesnt wow me.
It's probably just podcasts. The reason that you can't get music on the mobile store is because of licensing the content for GSM downloads. It would be much more expensive. But since podcasts are free, it shouldn't be a problem. So do you have full access to the store in 2.2? or just the podcast section?
interesting, because currently it wont even let you into the iTunes store (on the iPhone) over Edge (and I assume 3G)... It just says, "you must connect to a wifi network to access the iTunes store"
So do you have full access to the store in 2.2? or just the podcast section?
The jailbroken version gives you access to the iTunes podcast directory? Then allows you to sync everything up with your podcast subscriptions in iTunes? I think not...
No it doesnt, but you can manually add them and sync them over the air.
Are you saying they will sync to your podcast subscriptions within iTunes?
That is huge, I am subscribed to a lot of podcasts. If I listen to one on my iPhone I want to be able to show it as listened to (and deleted) in iTunes when I sync it up. Otherwise my podcasts in iTunes are dups of those on my iPhone... If I have listened to one on my iPhone, I dont want to start listening to it again on my MBP only to find I have already listened to it.
This kind of functionality is one that only Apple can provide.
It doesn't "wow" me either, but it certainly makes life easier sometimes...

This a feature I have been wanting for a long time. Glad to see its finely coming. Those other features are nice but not really things are care about either way.Seriously, this is something people have been asking for.
Indeed, I would say this is only the second of the top ten most asked for features (the other being texting more than one person) to have been done since the iPhone shipped.
That doesn't excuse the other eight still not having been done after all this time, but this is finally a step in the right direction.
