iphone 2 Running Very Slow

After upgrading to the new operating system, my iphone 2 is running insanely slow. To the point it is becoming very hard to even use. Any suggestions would be great. I will be really annoyed if apple is pushing for people to get new iphones by making the old ones run slow via new the new operating system. I have been dropping more calls than normal, the touch is incredibly delayed and none of the applications are able to run correctly.

Have you heard of others that are having the same problem?

I have the same problem (iPhone 3G right?), do you think that restoring it will make it a little bit faster?
