iPhone 2G (already unlocked?) + GoPhone SIM

I have a 2G iPhone that I previously jailbroke/unlocked with bookneuter and blackra1n. I just got a GoPhone sim card and a cheap $10 phone. When I got home, I put the SIM card in, made sure carrier was set to automatic (also tried setting to AT&T), and tried it, but it didn't work. Any advice?

Firmware version is 3.1.2

Most likely explanation is the "cheap $10 phone" has a SIM lock to that same phone for 6 months. Go down to an AT&T store or kiosk in a mall and tell them you need a GoPhone SIM. Don't mention iPhone. They might make you put some money on the account but they usually give the SIM free.
