Iphone 2G came back to life, can't remember password!

My boyfriend's Iphone 2G was dead after some water spillage inside his backpack, but now came back to life and seems to be working fine. Problem is he can't remember the password and we don't have the laptop he used to synch his iphone to anymore.

Is there any way to bypass the password? I've been searching everywhere but I'm not really sure on how to proceed with what was suggested.
