iPhone 2g New or Refurb?

I can get a 2g iPhone for a great price right now from a friend who works for the phone company, my question is, should I buy new or refurb? Rebfurb is cheaper and I figure maybe the problems that went wrong with the NEW 2g iPhone might be fixed in a refurb. Any suggestions?

I would buy the 1st generation one again in a heart beat.

Ya first generation, from ATT. It is cheap because now 3g is coming out but I can't afford 3g haha.

so you think refurb is best?
