iPhone 2G Software Update

My dad wants to update his iPhone OS to the latest one. He's currently at iPhone OS 1. something. His phone is jailbroken and unlocked, so he's not sure how to update it. Usually, he takes it to a shop to have it updated, but I was able to unlock his new iPhone 3GS so he trusts that I can have it done without any issues. I believe that if I restored his iPhone through iTunes, update to 3.1.2 and then run Blackra1n... it will work. Will it work? If not, is there an easy way to do it?

Just update it from iTunes. Run blackra1n then download bootneuter from cydia and unlock his phone.

You might need booneuter to unlock it thru cydia.
But once you update, jailbreak with blackrain and install cydia it should be easy to do.

A 2G iPhone needs a different kind of unlock. Ultrasn0w and blackn0w are for 3G and 3GS phones. BootNeuter is a great way to unlock your phone, though. Give it a try.
