itunes can't detect the device connected via USB.

I had some problems back in March/April. So took it to apple store. They tried upgrading the firmware to latest and after that itunes couldn't even detect the iphone. Apple store people said that the phone was not in warranty so they won't fix it.

Since the iphone is unusable, I am trying to do the blackra1n solution but it gets stuck on "waiting for device" screen. I even tried an old pwangtool 2.0.1 and it too can't detect the device.

Any suggestions?

It has a cingular sim card -- old one which is not active. That's why it enters the "connect to itunes" screen as soon as the sim card is put.

As soon as I connect a usb cable it again gives the "connect to itunes" screen.

It has 3.1.3 firmware.

May be itunes needs a valid sim card for it to detect. Since when I plug in the usb cable the phone recognizes it & gives the "connect to itunes" screen, I am guessing that the USB connection on the iphone is OK.

Another problem with the phone is that home button is not working. So I need to restart every time I need to launch another app.

I will try with a valid ATT sim and report back.

I tried with a ATT sim for blackberry, didn't work. I still see a locked icon on top.
