iphone 2G system reset freeze / help request

i selected the delete all data and reset all settings option about 4 hours ago

now the phone is frozen in the following sequence (approximate times)
1 minute of apple logo
14 minutes of apple logo with status wheel (but no movement on the wheel)
reset

any ideas what is wrong or how to fix it or how long it takes to get fixed.
