iPhone 2g taking forever to sync music

I just got my iPhone a few days ago, and it takes forever to sync these few 6GB of songs that I have in a playlist. My music is on an external harddrive, I have did the Reset Warning fix. Songs are easily taking minutes to sync at a time.

EDIT: I'm even syncing in airplane mode!

Check to see that you are running iTunes 9.1.1 (12). If you are running iTunes 9.1.1 (11) your sync will likely be slow.

Alternatively, you may not be connected to a USB 2.0 port, either for the Phone or Hard Drive. Try connecting directly to the computer, just to make sure.

I believe I've found the problem. I had the convert songs options on. Thanks for the assistance.
