I have an iPhone 2g that is not activated and does not have the original SIM card. When I turn it on it says "No SIM card installed." I have a non activated SIM card, but when I put it into my iPhone and connect it to iTunes it wants me to activate it through AT&T with an additional $20.00 dollars a month service fee. I just want to be able to use this phone at home on my WI-FI without data service plan or telephone service. I want to use it just as an iPod touch. Please advise me what my options are or how to bypass AT&T activation?

How to use iPhone 2g as iPod touch

I followed the instructions that you gave me. But I am unable to get in iTunes to the section that allows you to restore. See the attachment I linked with this message. Any suggestions?
