iPhone 2g unlock and activation question?

I bought an iPhone 2g off of a friend. He gave me the phone without the SIM card because he switched carriers. Now that AT&T Sim doesnt work. Stupid me, I tried to upgrade the firmware. Now it is stuck on the emergency call screen. How can I bypass this and unlock it so that I can use my Tmobile sim on it?

As far as i can remember it has hacktivation in it.

Redsnow the iPhone and pop in your SIM card.

I would put it into Recovery mode (turn the phone off, and hold the home button down while connecting it to iTunes) and then do a restore to 3.0, and like others said download and run redsn0w to jailbreak/unlock the device.
