So im trying to unlock my iphone 2g to work with at&t so i dont have ruin my contract. My 3GS went through the wash so i bough a 2g off a friend.

ive jailbroken the device, but when i install cydia it sits there loading before i can install anything. i've tried restoring firmware and re-installing cydia to no avail. any ideas? thanks!

rejailbreak it with Redsn0w 0.9.4, it will install bootloader 3.9 & 4.6 which unlocks your 2g phone. You don't even need to go through cydia.

Somtimes it takes forever to Load Cydia on the first attempt, just leave it to run after 5-10 minutes it should work

Exactly.
When I did one a month or so ago it took forever for the first time to load everything on cydia.
Make sure you're connected to a fast wifi and just be very very patient.
Dont let the screen go black or dim and just sit there and let it do its thing.
After that long wait you should be good to go.

nope, it crashes after a few minutes of loading

Re do it. It should work fine.

alright, here goes nothing.

Use different methods;

1. You can use blackra1n to jailbreak it.
2. If you have AT&T sim, restore it with 3.1.3, then use the sim card to activate, then either use spirit or jailbreakme to jailbreak it.
3. Once you jailbreak and have Cydia installs, download BootNeuter from Cydia to unlock your phone.

thanks guys. got her unlocked. :)

best looking iphone imo. just needs an internal boost haha
