iphone 2g wake up delay 35 sec

I purchased a used 2g, and is it standard for the phone to wake in 35 seconds once the home button is pushed? The software version is 3.1.2. Not yet unlock or jailbroken.

No that is not normal try doing a restore to see if that fixes the problem

Restored in iTunes, still continuing a 35 second wake up. Although the wake up is immediately when the 2G is connected to a power supply. Can this be a poor battery?
