My old iPhone 2G (3.1.3, JB/Unlock) WiFi died uneventfully a couple weeks ago after four years of service. I can turn it on but it does not find any networks. After resetting the network settings didn't work, I tried the "freezer trick" which worked a few times for a few minutes each, leading me to believe it's a hardware problem requiring a reflow of the solder joints.

After some research and coming across the YouTube video of the "oven fix", I eventually decided to attempt this. The video only shows a 3G model though, where the logic board contains the WiFi chip. As I understand it, the 2G has a separate logic board and communications board, with the WiFi chip on the latter. I baked the comm board for 7 minutes at 385 deg, which didn't fix the problem, but upon reassembly everything functioned as before the bake.

Has anyone else done this with a 2G successfully? Was the comm board the right component to focus on or should I try this on the logic board?

Thanks
