iphone 3 for daughter

Hi
Ive been looking to get a touch phone for my daughter.
Ive been looking at buying on ebay a 3gs to keep the cost down, but in general im concerned that internet (browsing connection) wouldnt be as secure (like the restricted settings on google from home PC.
Im looking to get a Virgin pay monthly sim card, is an iPhone compatible?
Ive looked at other phones by samsung and HTC but the iPhone should be more compatible as we are a mac based family.
Any help or tips would be really appreciated.

On the iPhone you can set up parental controls if you are concerned, you can restrict certain applications and downloads.

As for the SIM card, the iPhone would have to be on that network.

As for the phone choice I'd definitely go for an Apple product as they are reliable and fun to use, a couple of my friends have HTC's and the build quality is terrible compared to the iPhone's (especially the iPhone 4)
