The iPhone 3 or 3Gs as most people call it, only has one more year of updates. Its a fairly old phone, but still usable. I suggest you wait one more month. Apple is expected to release the iPhone 5. The iPhone 4 or a revised iPhone 4 will be set at the current price of the iPhone 3.

two years without facetime, front facing camera, retina dispaly, better speed. and some games that you cannot run on iphone 3, because the phone is too slow.
The only games that can't run on the 3Gs are ones that require the use of the gyroscope. The 3Gs is actually faster in game play then the iPhone 4. It has to do with the amount of pixels the GPU has to push. With the same GPU in both the 3Gs and 4, the lower resolutions 3Gs can get higher frame rates even though the 4 has a slightly higher CPU clock.
