I just bought a brand new iPhone 3. I know.. But I do not wish to use it as a phone, just an iPod. But since it is brand spanking new, it isn't connecting to iTunes.. It just goes to a "There's a problem with your iPhone message" Can I bypass this and load music playlists etc? Please help... Jeff

It is a MB384LL/A iPhone 16gb..

That part number corresponds to the original iPhone model.

Here's my guess.... The current iTunes should work with that phone. But by now is probably expecting it to be running iOS 3.x.

And here we are with Apple signing updates to 8.x.

I believe older phones that don't support 8.x might be able to download their highest supported versions (though I'm likely wrong about that). But I expect Apple long abandoned the first iPhone and iOS 3.x.
