iphone 3G 16gb no custom option under ringtones.

Hi there I cant find any information on this, just how to make ringtones which i can do. On my buddies Iphone he picked up i went to add some ringtones but under the sounds/ringtone settings there is no option for custom just standard ringtones. Even under contacts/edit there is no option for custom either. Some help on this would be great thanks!!

They need to be added to itunes as ringtones and selected to sync.
