I am traveling for the next week and would like to update the firmware on my iPhone 3g... My phone syncs with my Macbook (which I left at home for this trip), but I do have my corporate Dell laptop with me (I am on a business trip)... I have connected the 3g to this laptop before but only to charge the battery while I listen at my desk...

If I use the Dell to update my phone:

-Will it overwrite my contacts on the phone? (this would be bad)

-Will all my music and videos and stuff be wiped from the phone? (also bad)

I just don't feel like waiting a week to get the new FW... Tired of e-mails and text taking forever to input unless I reboot the phone!

Thanks!

Wait until you get home. If you update on your Dell, it will assume you want to sync there, and will syn with whatever contacts and content are on that computer.

If it's nothing, then you risk losing what's on your iPhone now.

Just wait till you get back.
