iPhone 3g 2.2 Bookmarks Bar question

This may sound stupid, but i just got an iPhone, and i am very avid user of bookmarks bar on my iMac and macbook, but am clueless as how to use it on iPhone. Is this mainly for storing bookmarks on my iPhone to then be synced to my iMac and macbook? I cant see the point of a bookmarks bar on iPhone as it would minimize the screen even more.
