Iphone 3G 3.1.3 will not detect any wifi

I bought an iphone 3G 3.1.3 from someone that was not jailbroken or unlocked. I jailbroke it myself with redsn0w and then tried to use Cydia but my phone couldn't access the internet. Afterwords, i reset all network settings, turned off the Iphone, reset the Iphone to factory setting on 3.1.3, and look at every other way but my Iphone still won' detect any wifi networks. I have a seperate Itouch that will detect my home network and all other networks around, so my connection is perfect. Is the phone's atenna broken or what? Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

I just had to go really close to the box thing for it to connect.

Mines 4 days old and won,t do the same either also on 3.1.3 from Orange.Apple have sent me a returns box and they are going to replace it with another 3G.
