I am looking at getting the Iphone 4 and was thinking of giving my 3G to my son to use as a touch if possible. Does anyone know if the phone will work without a sims card allowing him to use it as a touch? downloading games via wifi?

Yes. It will become, for all intents and purposes, an iPod touch. You can either use it with his iTunes account, if he has one, and it will wipe clean, or you can use it with your own iTunes account, just log in as yourself.

Not sure of your son could use a phone, but you could also move your iPhone 3G to one of those pre-paid plans. This would give him a very low cost phone that he could use on as-needed basis.
They are age 7 and 9 and I refuse to get them a phone. They are constantly bugging my wife and I to play on our iphones eventhough they both have DS, PSP, etc. I thought maybe this would be a quick fix.
