iPhone 3g backup

Have been trying to udate itunes software and back up iPhone. itunes downloads the software but gets stuck on backup. Have tried several times even leaving the backup procedure on overnight . When I go to cancel backup I have to reboot pc as this gets stuck also.
Anys suggestions.

Is your 3Gs JB'ken? Try updating iTunes if you already haven't done so. Do you have enough hard drive space?

Crappy computer, bad iTunes install, insufficient space, corrupt backup, these could all contrubute.

Try going into Edit > Preferences > Devices and deleting all your backups and trying again. Either that or re-install iTunes.
