Any one notice that the battery life is worse?

Battery Life:
Talk time: Up to 5 hours on 3G;
up to 10 hours on 2G
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
Internet use: Up to 5 hours on 3G;
up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 7 hours
Audio playback: Up to 24 hours

but if they weren't going to include a bigger battery to make up for it, what stopped them from putting 3G into the 1st gen iPhones?
Seeing as how the new iPhone has two more hours of talktime on 2G (10 hours) than the old iPhone (8 hours) does, it's apparent they've done something to get more battery life out of it.

what is the difference exactly between 2g and 3g, and what goes the g stand for?

Considering that you get an extra TWO HOURS of talktime if you use the new iPhone on the same 2G network that the old iPhone runs on, how do you know that they didn't put a bigger battery in?

True. I'm not that familiar with the specs so I'd presumed the thread starter is right about the battery life being "worse".
In any case, I think it's marginal and they could have risked putting 3G in the first generation one:)

These are the OLD specs

Talk time: Up to 8 hours
Standby time: Up to 250 hours
Internet use: Up to 6 hours
Video playback: Up to 7 hours
Audio playback: Up to 24 hours

so more talk (on 2G), more standby, same internet, same video, same audio
Not to mention if you use internet on 2G it will last even longer than the old iPhone

3G is a battery hog. The expectation is that there'll be an option to turn it off and run on 2G, which gets you extended battery life when you need it. You can then fire it back up when you want to surf.

Ya, i guess if you just switch it to 2g, it gets better battery life. If you are near a plug in, i guess it makes sense to switch it to 3g for faster surfing, then charge it back up.
