iPhone 3G: Bought in the D.R. activated in Canada?

Hey guys, this is my first time posting here, I come with a small dilemma.

You see I currently live in the Dominican Republic, where the iPhone 3G has recently been introduced with a carrier (Claro) anyways, the problem is I'm leaving to Canada in about 4 months, but my birthday is coming up soon and I have the opportunity of getting an iPhone 3G.

So my question is: If I buy the iPhone in the Dom. Rep., activate it with Claro, then when I go to Canada will I be able to activate it there with a new carrier?

The biggest question is how long will you be in Canada?

Please remember that the iPhone 3G's warranty is only valid in the Country of original sale. So in your case you would have to go back to Dominican Republic (D.R.) for warranty service.

Also which carrier in D.R are you using since only Orange offers authorized unlocking? You would need an unlocked iPhone 3G to use a Fido / Rogers SIM in Canada. So you would either have to do a software unlock or get the carrier unlock. The Carrier unlock would be the best choice unless the price difference is huge.
