Iphone 3g...can it be an ipod?

Hello..i got a 3g phone off someone..and i wanted to use it for an IPOD touch for my daughter...we have wifi in the house...i totally restored the phone..and it will NO connect to the wifi?? I know the password is the correct password for the wifi..I have been told it has to be unlocked?? CAN anyone help me????

Wifi may be broken on the iPhone 3g or something. It doesn't need to be unlocked to use wifi.

wifi works...just worked a day ago....but once the person stopped service...i cant get it to connect to my wifi!!
