I know they work well with the original iPhone but i cant find an answer about the 3G. I heard that iHome doesnt work with the 3G so i was wondering if the Altec Lansing speakers would be the same.

The T612 works fine with iPhone 3G--it's the dock fit that's the problem and should be rectified with a new adapter. But music does work perfectly assuming you sit it properly in the speaker

Altec doesn't work with all 3Gs

Yes, very frustrating. My white 16g 3G won't fit into the dock and stay in place. I can press it in firmly and have it start playing/charge up but as soon as I let go of the phone it slides up out of position and I lose the connection. However, my wife's same 16g white 3G stays in place nicely w/o any problems; very frustrating! I'm going to return my phone just b/c of this problem in the hopes of swapping it for another that won't have this problem...I guess the contour of all the phones isn't quite identical. Either way, do you guys think they'll come up with an adaptor to correct this???

Device not iPhone 3G compatible

Just went to the Apple store and bought the Altec Lansing T612, it is iPhone compatible.
At home, I setup the sound dock and inserted my black 16Gb iPhone 3G. First things I noticed was that the adapter did not fit the iPhone 3G. Small fix, remove the adapter and inserted the phone.
A message appeared on the iPhone "Device not compatible with iPhone". No play/pause and no previous/next, power on/off and volume are the only functions that work.

Back to the store, the T612 is NOT iPhone 3G compatible.

that's strange. Besides the fit (which I fixed by getting the 3G universal dock adapter from Apple's site), the t612 played and charged with my 3G perfectly.

Altec Lansing T612

This is my favorite iPod dock. I even like this better than the bose and works great with my 3g phone. I went to the apple store and checked out all of the products, but i thought the 199.99 price was a bit pricey. I found this place in NJ Electronics Expo, called them up and got it for $165 shipped to me. It arrived in perfect condition and saved me $52.23 with the tax difference. The number I called was 800-252-8841 to place the order. I definately recommend this model to anyone looking for a good desktop system.:apple:

T612 DOES work with iPhone 3G

I know this post is a bit old, but just received a T612 for Christmas. Was a bit worried when I set my 3G iPhone in the dock and it DID NOT fit well. I searched reviews on line as I was ready to return the dock and found the reviews on the speakers were stellar. Went to Lansing Website: http://www.alteclansing.com/index.php?file=north_product_detail&iproduct_id=t612
And of course this list it as compatible for the 3G... now at the bottom of the right hand column there is a FAQ link... there you will find where you can get a free (says $3, but I was not charged a thing) adapter for the 3G.
Of course I have had all the same issues listed on the blog, does not fit, I get the warning that it is not compatible with the 3G, etc... the adapter will fix that. The phone does work with the T612...
Anyhow... just hoping the links and FAQ download will help. Good speakers, good reviews, I think Lansing just needs to get the adapter into the box.
All the best
