My wife has come to me on a couple occasions with a problem on her 3G iPhone. She is making a call with the phone against her face. She pulls the phone away from her face, and either the display does not come on at all or the display does come on, but as soon as she presses the "End Call" button, the display shuts off. Through all this, the call continues unabated. She has become so frustrated that she does a forced reboot to shut the phone off and end the call. When I ask her how often it happens, she says "sporadically."

Here's the rub: she always uses the Sportsuit Convertible for iPhone 1G. That case completely envelops the phone, and I think the problem is that the phone reads the case as her face, which causes the behavior. I have a simple Belkin Silicone Sleeve, and have never had this problem.

Anyone else have this problem, either with or without the case? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Joe Hass
