Yes, I read that really long thread on cracks but I wanted a more recent answer. I have a 3G out of warranty with a super long dock connector crack. I want to pass it on to a friend and upgrade, but I was wondering my chances of getting it replaced although I have no applecare. Would it depend on which store I take it to? The phone is pristine except for this crack, which has seemed to grow without me noticing.. Thanks in advance. :apple:

Any ideas? I don't want to make that drive to the apple store and setup an appointment only to be shot down.

Boston44 I'm in exactly the same position with my 3G. Did you manage to exchange yours for a new one? Is the crack fault next to the dock connector something that Apple will replace even if it's out of warranty?
