So I'm from sweden and I'm getting an iphone. But Telia is the only company thats allowed to sell it atm, so i will have to switch from vodafone to telia and sign an 18months contract. When do you think they will start to sell it without a preset operator so I can choose to buy JUST the phone itself?

In your case about the same time when Sweden adopts the same mobile unlocking laws to France. We have no idea when or if Apple is going to sell unlocked phones, although its possible that a Pay as you Go option might be introduced that would still be with the carriers that have a deal with Apple.
