Iphone 3G freezing up help

I have an Iphone 3G that was jailbroken, recently i restored it and did not jailbreak it again, now it just seems to freeze up on me all the time.
I restored it again and still having the same problem It has the most recent software update.

I am waiting for my ATT contract to be up which is next month so I can move to verizon but phone is driving me crazy.

How does it run before you install the backup?

DFU restore. Do not restore from backup.

Yes, you can always choose to restore from backup later, just don't this time to see if you still experience issues.

I have tried to get it into DFU mode with no luck, I believe it is because my home button does not work correctly all the time, at times I have to hit it several times before it works, Is there a chance that this could be a software problem?

Any help would be very appreciated thanks again .
