my iphone 3g has a problem with not wanting to change to a diffrent app, u have to turn it off then back on,it works fine. what can i do to fix this?

when i am on an app it will not close i need to turn phone and back on just to make a phone call or text

What app is that? What happens when you open this app and then you press the Home button?

What if you press the Home button twice?

Edit: if the problem seems to be the Home button - you might want to calibrate it as follows:

Go to a stock app like weather
Hold power button like you shutting it down
Wait for slide to power off appears
Now that it appeared release the power button and hold the home button until the app closes
