this is my first post on the MacRumors Forums, so sorry if i'm doing something wrong.

here is my problem-
my iPhone 3G's home button just recently stopped working. however, after tapping it quickly or sliding my finger when i pushed it made it work again. but only for a day. so now it's unresponsive again, and i can hear an irregular clicking noise when it's pushed, and it doesn't feel normal either.

so i decided to open up the phone and take a look. this is my first time ever doing this. i've separated the front and back pieces successfully, but am unsure about removing the lcd screen from the glass.

here is a picture of my home button. the smaller metal circle that the home button presses against is off center. is this my problem? the contacts and ribbons all seem to be in perfect condition.

so where do i go from here? do i need to separate the lcd screen from the glass to continue?

i would appreciate any help you guys can offer, thank you.
