if i buy an iphone 3g with no contract in the us with att and unlock it, can i use it with a canadian gsm provider with pay as you go?And does anyone know if the "data block" work? because theres a way to block data from your iphone (not letting you access data ,only wifi), any advice?

You have to sign a contract in order to purchase an iphone. There's no way around it.

what i mean by no contract is i pay the 500$ for 8 gig (its possible with att)

If you can get your hands on an iphone and it is unlocked similar to the first generation ones then you should have no problem using it in Canada. It'll just function as if it were a regular phone. There may be a third-party app available to block data or you could probably call your service provider and ask them to do it.
